The Timmins and District Hospital (T&DH) is a level C, fully accredited (Accreditation Canada) referral and teaching hospital serving the residents of the City of Timmins and Cochrane District as well as the adjoining areas of the Temiskaming, Sudbury and Algoma districts. T&DH is dedicated to providing health care services that are consistent with the needs of our community and catchment area. The hospital offers a full range of medical, surgical, critical care, maternity, newborn, pediatric, long-term care and mental health services as well extensive health education and district services. T&DH houses 161 beds hospital wide and has approximately 850 frontline staff and 70 physicians. The hospital is a leader in state-of-the-art telecommunications and diagnostic equipment connecting physicians and staff to medical practitioners and specialists throughout Canada.
As the health care system continues to transform to better serve the needs of Ontarians, so must the role of the Timmins and District Hospital within the region's health care continuum. As we look to the future, we have developed a strategic plan that will guide our strategic decisions into 2015 and beyond.
Past to Present
The Timmins and District Hospital (T&DH) was incorporated in 1988 following the amalgamation of the two existing hospitals (St. Mary's General and Porcupine General) within the City of Timmins. In November 1993, the newly constructed T&DH opened with the transfer of all patients and staff from the St. Mary's site. In March 1996, the chronic care/rehabilitation services of T&DH, provided at the Porcupine General site, were moved to the new site of T&DH. Since April 1996, all services provided by T&DH have been available at one site.
The new vision and mission/role statements in the revised plan are:
The Timmins and District Hospital is a compassionate care provider leading improvements that will contribute to the health of our population and the creation of healthier communities.
Our vision emphasizes our commitment to our patients as their community and district hospital, and to our partners and health care professionals as their district referral center.
Compassionate and Exceptional Patient Care...Together!
The Timmins and District Hospital is a referral centre for advanced diagnostic and treatment for the district and a community hospital for the City of Timmins.
We provide quality hospital based care, facilitate access to specialized services, and support the education of health care professionals.
As a sustainable health care organization, we focus our core competencies and specialized services, and work collaboratively with our partners to create a responsive and supportive health care continuum.
Advancing the provision of quality hospital care. Addressing the evolving health care needs of our communities. Working with our partners to strengthen the care continuum in Northeast Ontario.
As we transition from the current environment towards our desired future we will be guided by the following strategic directions:
Enhance patient centered care

Contribute to the development of best practices and a safe patient environment
Embrace clinical and technological advances
Redefine our role within the region's health care system
Achieve financial sustainability
Our values represent our fundamental beliefs and inform our decisions and actions. They guide how we interact with each other, with patients, their families, and with our partners.
We encourage a culture of excellence and continuous improvements in line with our Quality Framework which is based on safety, accessibility, appropriateness, and satisfaction.
We are accepting of individual needs and choices. We advocate for our patients, professions, and hospital.
We listen and consider divergent viewpoints. We strive to meet the needs of our patients, staff and partners. We respect the ethnic, language and cultural diversity of the people we serve.
We ensure that decisions are based upon trust, integrity and transparency. We are outcome focused. We look for opportunities to address our shortcomings, improve our productivity, and build upon our successes.
We anticipate the needs of our patients and community. We are innovative and adaptable in how we do business, and welcome changes that improve our ability to provide exceptional patient care.
We recognize that for our patients to experience a seamless health care system we must work as a team and develop strong partnerships.
Our ability to fulfill our mission and achieve our vision is dependent on three main pillars.
Our PEOPLE include our physicians, clinical professionals, volunteers, administrative and support staff. We will ensure that we have the proper resources in place to provide a safe and healthy work environment.
Our RESOURCES include our facilities, technological infrastructure, and finances. We will ensure that they are sufficient for us to sustain our services while allowing us to respond to the evolving needs of our communities.
Our PARTNERS include our patients, their families, our Foundation, health care providers, educational institutions, and communities. A commitment to health requires the involvement and dedication of all stakeholders.
