Infection Control

The Ontario government introduced mandatory public reporting in September 2008 on several patient safety indicators including; Clostridium difficile (C. diff), Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus (VRE), ventilator associated pneumonias (April 2009), central line infections (April 2009), surgical site infections (April 2009) and hand hygiene compliance amoung health care workers (April 2009).

The T&DH Infection Control Service had been working with the Northeastern Regional Infection Control network on a pilot reporting study for C. difficile since June 2008. In keeping with its commitment to patient safety and transparency, the Timmins and District Hospital began reporting its rates for the most common hospital-associated infections in July 2008.
