Services at T&DH


Rehabilitation

Rehab services strives to meet the rehabilitation needs of inpatient clients and outpatient clients of Timmins and District Hospital. Clients/patients are referred by area physicians, specialists and local employers. Comprised of four disciplines: speech pathology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and kinesiology client needs are effectively met. Client needs may include but are not limited to injury assessment and treatment, post surgical treatment, conditioning, cardiac, return to work or daily activities programs, treating skin conditions, worksite analysis or adaptation, swallowing or speech assessment, stroke rehab, work readiness and functional assessments. Some of our services require third party payer. Rehab Services has a well equipped supervised gym. Memberships can be purchased by both staff and the general public. Our main office is located on the ground floor at the rear of the hospital. We can be contacted at 267-6394 

Complex Continuing Care

This service is geared towards inpatients, with a chronic illness or a multi-system disease, who are dependent on technology based, continuing or intermittent care. Comprehensive assessments and short-term treatments are also provided for frail elderly people experiencing medical illnesses and recent functional decline.

Interim Long-Term Care

Twelve beds have been designated as interim long-term care beds where patients can wait for their placement in a community-based long-term care bed. The atmosphere here is warm, friendly, home-like and resident-focused

Rehab and Workfit

The Workfit Centre provides a broad range of services such as a community clinic, conditioning program, worksite analysis, functional abilities evaluation, multi-disciplinary health care assessment, job compatibility screening, industrial rehabilitation, personal fitness testing, employee wellness and physiotherapy

Palliative Care

Palliative services take an integrated approach to emotional & spiritual support along with pain & symptom management to individuals in the end stages of terminal illness and is extended not only to the patients, but to their families & friends.

Cardiopulmonary Services

The Cardiopulmonary Department offers services to both in-patients and outpatients.
The department offers the following outpatient services:

  • Pulmonary function testing
  • Holter monitoring
  • Loop monitoring
  • Cardiac stress testing
  • Electrocardiograms
  • Electroencephalograms
  • Arterial blood gas sampling
  • Home oxygen assessments
  • Paediatric asthma education centre
  • Patient education


Medical Imaging Services

The Medical Imaging Department at Timmins and District Hospital (T&DH) offers the following services to both in-patients and outpatients referred from the Cochrane district:

  • Computed tomography
  • Angiography, fluoroscopy, biopsy, colonography, 3D volume rendering
  • Nuclear medicine
  • MIBI, bone scan
  • Magnetic resonance imaging
  • Breast, angiography
  • Ultrasound, echocardiogram and vascular services
  • General radiography and fluoroscopy
  • Bone densitometry
  • Mammography

The department is also a student training site for medical radiation technologists affiliated with Cambrian College and College Boreal, as well as ultrasonographers affiliated with Mohawk College.

T&DH and its NORrad partners have joined forces to create one of the largest PACS solutions in the world. NORrad PACS, which is comprised of 24 sites in Northeastern Ontario, offers the delivery of health care to all remote patients.

NORrad's vision is to employ proven health care and communications technology as an enabling factor to support physicians and other health care professionals. The vision also provides high quality care locally to the patients in Northeastern Ontario in a manner that is consistent with the delivery of care elsewhere in the province. 

Sleep Laboratory Services

The Sleep Laboratory offers services primarily to outpatients. These services include:

  • Polysomnography (sleep studies)
  • CPAP titration
  • Bi-level titration
  • Maintenance of wakefulness test
  • Multiple sleep latency test
  • Physician consultation on-site and via televideo conference
  • Pediatric studies
  • Transcutaneous carbon dioxide studies
